Taught Cultural Geography for many years at University of British Columbia, now emeritus at UBC and visiting professor at the Institute of Ecology in Xalapa, Mexico. His research has focussed recently on Prehispanic water management in the basin of the Candelaria River, Campeche, Mexico and has been supported by National Geographic Society.
