Dr. Geoffrey McCafferty is an Associate Professor in the Department of Archaeology at the University of Calgary. His research interests have focussed on the highland Mexican site of Cholula, where he has worked since 1980. He has published on such topics as the Classic to Postclassic transition at the site, the construction history of the Great Pyramid, and the Postclassic ceramics. As second research interest, in collaboration with his wife Sharisse McCafferty, is in gender relations in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. Their published work has touched on the Battle Murals of Cacaxtla, the Postclassic Tomb 7 at Monte Albán, and textile production at Postclassic Cholula. Recently Dr. McCafferty has begun a field project on the southwestern coast of Nicaragua, where he is investigating the Postclassic migration of Mesoamerican groups known as the Chorotega and Nicarao. |
