Currently a professor in the Department of Anthropology at Trent University, with a specialization in Mesoamerican art and archaeology. Has conducted research in Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico and, especially, Belize. In Belize, he has overseen investigations at the Maya sites of: Cahal Pech, Caracol, Caledonia (Zayden Creek), Moho Cay, Mountain Cow (Hatzcab Ceel) and, especially, Pacbitun. In 1994 he received the Distinguished Research Award (Social Sciences) of Trent University. Since 1994, he has directed a series of studies of the Formative Maya (1200 BC to AD 250) in central Belize, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) of Canada.
Professor Healy has directed mesoamerican studies at Trent University for many years. His students have benefited from fieldwork in Belize, and many have gone on to more advanced studies in major centres of Mesoamerican research.
